XHHW uses cross-linked polyethylene insulation, which is why it survives wet locations and why it is thinner than THHN at the same conductor size. XHHW-2 is rated 90 degrees C wet and dry. Both are common in feeders, services and underground work.
Large aluminum XHHW feeders are one of the more valuable things that comes out of a commercial closeout, and one of the more common items left on a rack.

How XHHW is identified
- XHHW or XHHW-2 printed on the jacket, not just a color
- Conductor size in AWG or MCM
- Copper or aluminum, confirmed at a cut end
- Voltage class, since 1kV material is priced differently
- Footage remaining and whether the reel tag is intact
Same ampacity, less copper
XHHW insulates more efficiently than thermoplastic, so a given raceway carries more current. That is why plants and large commercial jobs specify it for feeders — and why the leftovers tend to be big reels rather than coils.
Wire and cable only
We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

Read the print legend off the jacket and call +1 (614) 715-3047. For this material the tag, the insulation type and the footage are what we need.
Quote your xhhw and xhhw-2 wire
Send the reel tag, the jacket legend and the footage. Photographs of the tag and the reel end are usually enough to give you a number.
