Building wire and feeders

We buy surplus THHN, THWN, XHHW and building wire

The everyday wire of every North Carolina job: feeders, branch circuits, panels and switchgear feeds. Copper or aluminum, #14 through 1000 MCM, full reels or the last 80 feet on the wood.

THHN and its wet-location twins THWN and THWN-2 do most of the work in commercial and industrial construction. XHHW and XHHW-2 show up wherever the spec calls for it, and aluminum feeders run from the service to the panel on a large share of Carolina projects.

Which means every closeout leaves some behind. A riser changes size, a panel schedule gets revised, a tenant build-out ends with three partial reels of 500 MCM and nobody wants to store them. That is the wire we buy.

Details that price the reel

  • Type as printed on the jacket, for example THHN or XHHW-2
  • Copper or aluminum, which changes the math entirely
  • Gauge or MCM and the number of conductors
  • Feet remaining, or a clear statement that the reel is full
  • Color, if you are holding a run of one phase or neutral
  • Whether the reel tag is still attached

Why footage beats weight on building wire

A reel of 4/0 aluminum and a reel of 4/0 copper can be the same size and are not the same material. We price on the construction of the conductor and the length actually remaining, which is why the tag and the print legend matter more than a guess at the scale weight.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

Building wire & feeders questions

Do you buy small leftover coils of THHN?
Yes, if there is enough to matter. A few coils of #12 add up when they are part of a larger load. Single short cut-offs are usually not worth a pickup on their own, and we will say so.
Do you take mixed colors on one reel?
Send it. Phase-colored and neutral reels are normal. Just note the color and size so we can confirm what it is.
Is aluminum feeder wire worth anything?
Yes. Aluminum 2-2-2-4 SER and large aluminum THHN feeders are common in North Carolina residential and light commercial work and are bought regularly.
What about wire with a damaged jacket?
Point it out in the description. A short section of damaged jacket at the end of a reel is usually fine; damage through the run changes what the reel is.
