Service entrance and underground

We buy SER, SEU, URD and USE-2 wire

Residential and light commercial work runs on service entrance and direct-burial cable. Every subdivision leaves partial reels of it behind, and underground work rarely comes back off the truck clean.

SER runs from the meter to the panel. SEU feeds the range, dryer and HVAC. URD and USE-2 go in the ground for outbuildings, pedestals and site lighting. All four are common in North Carolina regions where new subdivisions, well pumps and detached shops are normal.

Leftovers here are usually partial reels of three- and four-conductor aluminum, which is exactly the kind of stock that is worth clearing out but not worth advertising one reel at a time.

What we need on the form

  • Type: SER, SEU, URD, USE-2 or UF
  • Conductor configuration, for example 2-2-2-4
  • Copper or aluminum
  • Feet remaining and reel count
  • Whether it has been underground or is still new stock
  • City or ZIP where it is stored

Underground cable needs a straight answer

Cable that has already been buried, pulled through conduit and recovered is a different item from new stock on a sealed reel. Tell us which one you have. We still look at it, but the condition line on the form is what decides whether it makes sense.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

SER, SEU, URD & USE-2 questions

Do you buy 2-2-2-4 aluminum SER?
Yes, and it is one of the most common items we see. Full reels price better, but partial reels are bought regularly.
Do you take USE-2 that was already in the ground?
Sometimes, if it comes out clean and the jacket is intact. Photograph the jacket and the ends and describe how long it was buried.
Is UF cable from a farm or well project buyable?
Often. Send the size and footage. Small partial coils may not justify a pickup by themselves.
Do you buy triplex or quadruplex overhead service cable?
Send it in the description with the size and conductor count. Overhead service cable is reviewed the same way as other service entrance material.
