Armored, tray and VFD cable

We buy surplus MC, AC and tray cable

Commercial buildings run on MC. Plants run on tray cable. Both leave partial reels behind when the scope changes — and both are wire we buy.

Metal-clad and armored cable is bought by the reel and used by the foot, so estimating is never exact. A hospital wing, a school addition or a data hall leaves 200 feet of 12/2 MC and a partial reel of 10/3 behind, and it sits there until someone decides to clear the storage room.

Tray cable and VFD cable are the industrial side of the same story: long runs, cut to length on site, with the balance left on the reel.

What to photograph

  • The print legend, which shows the type and conductor count
  • The reel tag if it is still attached
  • The end of the cable, so the armor and conductor count are visible
  • How much is left, or whether the reel is still sealed
  • The jacket color and whether it is marked for a specific system

Assemblies are priced as assemblies

12/2 MC is not two separate wires; it is a factory assembly with armor, a ground path and a listing. We price it that way, and we need the conductor count and armor type to do it. A photo of the legend usually gives us both.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

MC, AC & tray cable questions

Do you buy cut lengths of MC?
Yes, on the reel or in clean coils with the legend still readable. Loose pieces with no marking are difficult to verify and generally not something we buy.
Is VFD cable bought separately from tray cable?
It is priced separately because of the shielding and conductor construction, but it is part of the same pickup. List it as its own line on the form.
Do you buy HCF or hospital-grade MC?
Yes. Note the armor type and that it is HCF, since the redundant ground path matters to the next buyer.
What if the armor is damaged at the end?
Say so. A short damaged tail is normally trimmed and the rest of the reel is still good.
