Surplus wire questions, answered

What we buy, what we do not, how a reel gets priced, and what to send when the tag is missing.

Buying scope

What wire types do you buy?
Copper and aluminum building wire; THHN, THWN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2; MC, AC, tray, VFD, TC and PLTC; SER, SEU, URD and USE-2; bare and insulated copper; grounding wire; welding cable; SOOW and portable cord; flexible, control, instrumentation, communication, shielded, fire-alarm and low-voltage cable; medium and high voltage 5kV, 8kV, 15kV, 25kV, 35kV and 69kV+ cable; EPR, XLPE and concentric-neutral cable.
Do you buy switchgear or transformers?
No. Transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery and unrelated scrap are outside our scope. Wire and cable only.
Do you buy used wire that has been pulled?
Sometimes. Cable pulled cleanly and re-reeled with the type still identifiable is reviewed case by case. Chopped, burned, contaminated or unmarked material is not something we buy.
What sizes do you handle?
From #14 through 1000 MCM, including #12, #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 250, 300, 350, 400, 500, 600 and 750 MCM.

Reels, pricing and condition

Do you buy partial reels?
Yes. Partial reels are a large share of what we buy. Footage remaining drives the number, so an honest estimate beats an optimistic one.
How is surplus wire priced?
On type, metal, gauge, conductor count, voltage class, condition, remaining footage and how the material has to be loaded. Those factors are why two similar-looking reels can price differently.
Does sun-faded or dirty reeling reduce value?
Wood condition is cosmetic and does not change the wire. What matters is whether the wire itself is intact and identifiable.
Do you buy boxed stock and coils?
Yes. Boxed stock, spools, coils and loose reels are all normal formats for us.

Logistics and paperwork

Do you pick up?
Yes, pickup is arranged as part of the quote. Tell us whether the site has a dock, a forklift, or only ground-level access.
Can I deliver instead?
Often, yes. Say so in the form and the delivery option gets priced into the conversation.
How much wire makes a load worth moving?
It depends on the material. A single reel of large copper can justify a pickup; a single partial reel of small aluminum usually does not. Send it and we will tell you honestly.
What photos should I take?
The full reel, the reel tag, a close-up of the jacket legend and the size marking. Four photos usually settle everything.
