We buy surplus 15kV medium voltage cable

The cable that runs between a switchgear lineup and a transformer. Fewer reels, higher value, and documentation matters.

15kV cable is the working voltage of most industrial and campus distribution in North Carolina: 133 percent insulation, EPR or XLPE, with a concentric neutral or a tape shield, usually in 1/0 through 1000 MCM.

Because terminations and splices are engineered, medium voltage reels tend to be bought carefully and left over completely. A 300-foot reel of 15kV 4/0 is a real asset.

What prices a medium voltage reel

  • The reel tag, which states voltage class, size and footage
  • Insulation type: EPR or XLPE
  • Concentric neutral wire count and size
  • Whether the reel was stored upright and dry
  • Any test data, certification or date of manufacture

Documentation carries the value

Medium voltage cable is not judged by appearance. The tag, the insulation type and any test data decide whether the reel can be returned to service, which is why those three things are worth photographing before anything else.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

Do you buy 15kV cable without a reel tag?
It is difficult. The voltage class and insulation type need to be established from the jacket print before it can be priced.
Is 5kV and 8kV cable bought?
Yes, at lower values. The same documentation rules apply.
Do you buy concentric neutral cable?
Yes, and the neutral wire count is part of how it is priced.
