THHN / THWN / THWN-2

We buy surplus THHN and THWN wire

The default wire in a conduit, ordered by the reel and installed by the foot. What is left over is usually still tagged and easy to price.

THHN is a 600-volt thermoplastic wire with a nylon jacket, rated 90 degrees C dry and 75 degrees C wet. THWN and THWN-2 are the wet-location versions, often printed on the same jacket in a dual rating. It runs in conduit, so every circuit on every job consumes it.

That also means every closeout leaves some behind: a riser that changed size, a panel schedule revision, or a coil of #10 that was opened for one pull.

THHN & THWN wire — full reels and partial reels are both in scope.

How THHN is identified

  • Print legend showing THHN or THWN-2 and the AWG size
  • Stranded or solid, since the two price differently at small sizes
  • Copper or aluminum — aluminum looks silver at a cut end
  • Remaining footage, or a full reel with the tag attached
  • Jacket color, especially for phase conductors and neutrals

Dual-rated reels are the norm

Most modern THHN is printed THHN/THWN-2 on the same jacket, which is why we ask for the legend rather than the color. A reel sold to you as THHN may be rated for wet locations, and that changes who can use it.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

THHN & THWN wire questions

Do you buy opened coils of THHN?
Yes, when they are part of a larger load. A single short coil of #12 rarely justifies a pickup on its own.
Is stranded wire worth less than solid?
At small sizes it is priced slightly differently, but both are bought. Tell us which you have.
Can you identify the size from a photo?
Usually. The print legend includes the AWG size, and a clear photo of one line of print is normally enough.
