URD is the conductor that runs from a transformer or pedestal to a meter, buried directly in the ground. It is usually aluminum, usually 600 volts, and usually installed in runs that are estimated rather than measured.
That combination produces exactly what we buy: a reel with 60 or 300 feet left on it, sitting beside a trench that is already backfilled.

How URD is identified
- The conductor size and how many conductors are in the assembly
- URD or USE-2 printed on the jacket
- Aluminum or copper, at a cut end
- Feet remaining, which is often written on the reel flange
- Whether it has been buried and recovered, since that changes condition
Buried once, priced on condition
URD that never left the reel is straightforward. URD that was installed, dug up and re-reeled is a different item, and the jacket condition decides whether it is buyable at all.
Wire and cable only
We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.
