Service entrance cable

We buy surplus SER and SEU cable

The cable between the meter and the panel on most North Carolina houses. Ordered by the reel, cut by the foot, and almost never used up.

SER is a flat or round assembly of insulated conductors with an overall jacket, used for service entrance and panel feeders. SEU is the three-conductor version with a bare neutral. Both come in aluminum most of the time and copper when the spec demands it.

Residential electricians buy SER constantly, which means there is always a partial reel on the truck or in the shop.

SER & SEU cable — full reels and partial reels are both in scope.

How SER is identified

  • The assembly size printed on the jacket, for example 2-2-2-4
  • SER or SEU, since the neutral construction differs
  • Aluminum or copper at a cut end
  • Feet remaining, or a full reel with the tag
  • Whether the jacket is sunlight resistant and still pliable

Assemblies, not single wires

You cannot price SER by adding up four conductor sizes. It is a listed assembly with a specific jacket, and the whole reel is what is bought. That is why the assembly number matters more than the individual gauges.

Wire and cable only

We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.

SER & SEU cable questions

Do you buy 2-2-2-4 partials?
Yes, constantly. It is the most common assembly in North Carolina residential work.
Is copper SER bought too?
Yes, and it is worth more per foot than aluminum. Note which you have.
What is the shortest SER you will take?
Usually 20 feet on a large assembly, more on a small one. Short pigtails are not worth a pickup.
