SOOW is a 600-volt portable cord with a thermoset jacket, oil and water resistant, used for tools and equipment that move. SJOOW is the lighter 300-volt version.
Every shop, rental fleet and plant maintenance department holds partial spools of it, usually in four or five conductor counts.

How portable cord is identified
- The type letters printed on the jacket, which give the voltage and jacket class
- Conductor count and AWG size
- Feet remaining on the spool
- Jacket condition, especially at the ends
- Whether it is cord or a factory assembly like a drop cord
Letters tell you the class
SOOW and SJOOW differ in voltage rating and jacket, and the price follows. Reading the letters off the jacket answers the question faster than measuring the diameter.
Wire and cable only
We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or unrelated scrap. Mixed loads are fine as long as we are quoting the wire portion.
